An effective NDIS plan manager should do more than simply ensuring timely bill payments (although this is crucial). They should be readily available to offer support and guidance in utilising your funding appropriately, while also ensuring that you neither over-spend nor under-spend. If you are dissatisfied with your current plan manager, remember that you have the power to choose and switch to a different plan manager at any time.
How do I change my NDIS Plan Manager?
Changing your NDIS plan manager is a simple process that can be done at any point during your plan, without waiting for a plan review. Here are the three steps to follow:
- Select a new plan manager – who prioritises your needs and meets your expectations.
- Notify your current plan manager in writing by sending an email stating your decision to cancel their services. You are not obligated to provide a reason and they cannot refuse. The participant or authorised representative must complete this step. An email template is provided below if needed.
- Inform your new plan manager of your previous plan manager and the date you gave notice. From there, they will handle everything else!
Key points:
• You have the freedom to select a plan manager who fulfills your needs.
• At any stage, you have the option to switch plan managers (not only during a plan review).
• A plan manager can’t prevent you from leaving or demand an explanation for your decision.
• Your previous plan manager will continue to offer services until the notice period (usually 30 days) expires, after which your new plan manager will take over.
• Your new Plan Manager will assist you in managing the transition process.
What should a good Plan Manager do for you?
The role of a Plan Manager is to support and guide you to use your NDIS funding in the best possible way to achieve your goals and outcomes. There are a number of ways an NDIS Plan Manager can support you, most importantly they should:
- KNOW WHO YOU ARE
- PAY your bills promptly
- SUPPORT you and be easily contactable – answer the phone and reply to emails.
- HELP you understand how to use your funding properly
- Allow you have better CONTROL over how you use your funding
- TRACK your budget and let you know when you are over or under spending your funds
