NDIS Funding Made Simple: How to Use It for Your Child’s Camp Experience

Are you wondering how to use your child’s NDIS funding for a memorable and meaningful camp experience? You’re in the right place. At Life Skills & Adventures (LSA), we’ve worked with countless families to make sure their kids can attend our NDIS-approved camps. Let’s break it down step-by-step so you can confidently use your NDIS plan to give your child the adventure they deserve.

What Is NDIS Funding and How Can It Help?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to provide support for individuals with disabilities. One of the best ways to use this funding is to help your child participate in programs that develop their skills, independence, and social connections—like the camps offered by Life Skills & Adventures.

But here’s the thing: understanding how NDIS funding applies to camps can feel intimidating. Don’t worry—we’re here to make it simple for you.

Why Camps Are Perfect for NDIS Goals

NDIS funding isn’t just about therapy or medical appointments. It’s about improving your child’s overall quality of life. Camps like ours are designed to build life skills, resilience, and confidence in a safe, fun setting. Whether it’s mastering teamwork during outdoor activities, gaining independence by packing their own gear, or simply making new friends, these experiences tick multiple NDIS boxes.

Here’s why camps align with NDIS goals:

  • Social and Community Participation: Camps provide opportunities to engage with peers and build social skills.
  • Daily Living Skills: Activities like meal preparation and self-care are often part of the camp routine.
  • Physical Wellbeing: Outdoor adventures encourage physical activity, which is vital for mental and emotional health.

How to Use NDIS Funding for Camps

The key is to match the camp experience with your child’s NDIS goals. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Review Your Plan Goals
Open your child’s NDIS plan and look for funding categories like:
    • Core Supports: Covers day-to-day activities, including social participation.
    • Capacity Building: Focuses on skill development and independence.
  2. Choose the Right Camp
Not all camps are NDIS-approved, but LSA’s camps are! Our programs are specifically designed to align with NDIS funding categories. Whether it’s our Phillip Island camp or Camp Manyung, you can rest assured your child will have a fulfilling, goal-oriented experience.
  3. Talk to Your Plan Manager or Support Coordinator
If you’re unsure how to allocate funding, consult your plan manager or support coordinator. They can help you structure your funding to include camps like ours.
  4. Book Early
Camps like LSA’s tend to fill up quickly. Once you’ve confirmed your funding, secure your spot early to avoid disappointment.

NDIS Funding FAQs for Camps

Still have questions? Here are a few quick answers:

  • What if I’m self-managed? You can directly pay for the camp and claim reimbursement through the NDIS portal.
  • Do I need approval before booking? It’s best to consult your plan manager, but many families book camps as part of their Core Supports.

  1. Suzanne Alaouie says:

I am very interested in your program. My four and a half year old son is on the autism spectrum. He is intelligent and functional but lacks social and verbal skills.

  2. LSA says:

    Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for your interest in our camps and for sharing a little about your son. He sounds like a bright and amazing child!

Our camps are specifically designed for children aged 7 to 18, as the activities and environment are tailored to this age range. Unfortunately, at four and a half years old, your son is a bit too young to join our programs right now.

We’d love for you to keep us in mind for the future when he’s a little older and ready to take part in our camps. If you have any other questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Fun@LSAdventures.com.au.

    Warm regards,

    Anna & David
